by Shaun Jefford
The Australian filmmaker Shaun M. Jefford in search of punks in a country where punk has no tradition: young musicians in Beijing have prescribed to this rebellious lifestyle and formed an unwelcome counter-culture. Accompanied by familiar tunes and exotic Chinese punk music alike, this film tails the bands in their daily lives and follows them to their gigs. It depicts how the musicians attempt to express their ideas of freedom contra state and party pressure. Living for their passion alone, the protagonists have no time to pursue regular work. Instead, they receive financial support from two Americans who are convinced that what is happening in the Beijing music scene will be a great success.
