Ballet 422

Jody Lee Lipes|DOK: Kunst & Kultur

What seems so easy and flawless on stage actually requires a great deal of endurance, gruelling training and perfect choreography. The New York City Ballet is one of the world's leading dance companies. A dancer for over ten years, 25-year-old Justin Peck is part of the troupe’s core cast. He is given the task, as the youngest trained choreographer, of getting a new piece ready for performance within two months. Every step, every turn, and even the position of the fingers – every detail is critically discussed and defined. Filmmaker Jody Lee Lipes documents Peck's work, from drawn sketches to the premiere. He captures life in the rehearsal rooms and introduces us to the costumers and the in-house orchestra. BALLET 422 is not strictly a dance film, but more a fascinating look into the various processes behind a perfect performance.
