All Is Lost

J. C. Chandor|Thriller

A solitary skipper, whose name we will never know, is jolted awake when his yacht collides with a container in the middle of the ocean. He sets to work fixing the leak with all the knowledge and coolness of an experienced sailor, but the incoming water has irreparably damaged the on-board radio and radar equipment. The sailor’s nightmare only truly begins when the hole has been repaired: Without knowing it, he’s heading straight into a violent storm. Some emergency supplies, a sextant, sea charts and his nautical knowledge are all he has to help him overcome the worst. A minimal film (almost) entirely without words or dramatic excess and – exactly because of this – breathtakingly exciting. Robert Redford excels with his presence as he practically carries ALL IS LOST on his own shoulders.
