Ali, a Pakistani, works as a DJ in the multicultural city of Bradford. Although still living with his wife, he observes helplessly how his marriage falls apart. Ava, who has her roots in Ireland, is a teaching assistant and, after the death of her husband, takes care of their shared house full of children and grandchildren on her own. Ali's and Ava's different worlds meet by chance and complement each other in a miraculous way: a relationship begins - gentle, soulful and full of music from two very different playlists. Set in the milieu of an English suburb, director Clio Barnard's bittersweet love drama sparkles with naturalness and joie de vivre. Unagitated and without clichés, she tells the story of her sympathetic characters, who find each other in the chaos of everyday life.
