Al Awda ila Hims / Return to Homs

Talal Derki|DOK: Gesellschaft & Mensch

The city of Homs in Western Syria: Demonstrations and chanting are the peaceful methods of resistance against the Assad regime. They are organised by the charismatic Basset, goalie with Syria’s national football team, and his friends. But when the Syrian army begins regulating and dropping bombs on the city that the young freedom fighters are forced to rethink their methods of resistance. Director Talal Derki followed this group of young revolutionaries over a period of two years, from 2011 to 2013, to create a unique documentation of the tumult and abysms of the civil war. This crushing and equally impressive documentation of war garnered the Sundance Film Festival’s top award.
