The summer of 1989. As a passionate tailor, Adam needs little to keep him happy: an old house with its idyllic garden, his oasis in the East German province, along with his sewing machine. Adam also needs Evelyn; he would not want to be without her. That is why he goes after her when she catches him flirting and tells him she needs some space. He follows her to Lake Balaton in Hungary and the two begin to get close again. When it is announced on the radio that Hungary is opening its border to the West a desire for freedom erupts in Evelyn: she wants to go West, to study and to live. Meanwhile, Adam feels comfortable in the East, but finds himself faced with the decision between his love and his beloved home.
