Acasă, My Home

Radu Ciorniciuc|DOK: Gesellschaft & Mensch

A lake scenery with high reed grass and willows. Turtles hide in the dense vegetation, a heron struts past. What sounds like a remote wilderness is actually only five kilometres from the centre of Bucharest. The Enache family, made up of two parents and nine children, live here on the site of a disused water reservoir. With high-rise buildings in sight and under the worried observation of the authorities, they lead an isolated, close-to-nature life on the fringes of society in their barracks. But when the government declares the urban delta a nature reserve, the family is forced to move to the city. Instead of expeditions through the swampland, the children now go to school. Confronted with a reality completely alien to them, the identity of the entire family is called into question. Director Radu Ciorniciuc accompanied the Enaches for more than four years. The result is a heart-breaking family portrait that casts an ambivalent glance at life in modern society.
