In August 2010, US border control stumbled across a body in the Arizona desert. ‘Dayani Cristal‘ was tattooed across his chest. It was obvious that this was one of the numerous migrants from Central America who didn’t wake up from his dream of life in the North. But who was this man? How did he travel? And why did he undertake this dangerous trip in the first place. To answer these questions, Mexican actor Gael García Bernal follows the classical migration route from Guatemala to the North on foot. He experiences the journey first-hand – and meets the dead man’s family. While the classical Mexican border story LA JAULA DE ORO is being screened in the International Feature Film Competition, the same story can be seen here from a documentary perspective.
