Cane Toads: The Conquest 3D

by Mark Lewis Out of Competition

Mark Lewis follows the spread of imported Hawaiian sugar-cane toads across Australia. Flown over in 1935 following a misinformed attempt to introduce them as a form of pest control, the creatures developed into a true menace. The toads are commonly viewed as the cause of Australia’s biggest environmental disaster – some, however, adore them. All attempts to rid the land of this amphibious plague have ended in failure. Neither barriers nor chemical maces can stop them. This documentary portrays the people who are affected by the invasion in remarkable ways. The true focus of the film, however, is on the unstoppable 1.5 billion cane toads, which continue to do what their genes tell them – multiply and expand their habitat.
