Phantom Owl Forest
by Anu Aun
The parents of ten-year-old Eia have little time for her. While her father is on a business trip to Singapore, her mother is on tour with her theatre company. Eia is forced to spend Christmas with her grandfather on a remote farm in the snow-covered south of Estonia. There, Eia soon discovers the beauty of nature in a landscape threatened by an unscrupulous businessman who wants to destroy the forest for a construction project. Together with her relatives, Eia is committed to the protection of the animals. This calmly told and beautifully photographed drama by 30-year-old Estonian director Anu Aun tells an emotional story of intergenerational friendship while simultaneously raising awareness of ecological issues.
