The highly intelligent lawyer and dangerous manipulator mercilessly investigated real or supposed communists in the civil service. As a prosecutor, his “manufactured” evidence led to the execution of the suspected spy duo, the Rosenbergs. As a consultant, he turned Senator Joseph McCarthy into a dema- gogue. He railed against blacks and homosexuals. The rumours that he was himself gay and suffering from AIDS, were denied from his deathbed. One year after STUDIO 54, filmmaker Matt Tyrnauer examines the prominent life and work of one of the most controversial figures in American politics, who is also largely responsible for paving the way for Donald Trump.
