Another News Story Programme 2018

by Orban Wallace International Documentary Film / Competition

“Sometimes you feel you’re making a noise, but not helping really.” When the first refugee boats of the day approach the Greek island of Lesbos, organised chaos breaks out among the waiting reporters. They scramble to their cars and head off along the stony coastline in a race to capture the most dramatic images. Amongst them is filmmaker Orban Wallace, whose lens is pointing not at the new arrivals, but at the reporting journalists. How do these news nomads, who have gathered here from all over the world, manage to maintain their professional daily routine in the face of the immense suffering they see every day? This film follows a convoy of journalists as they make their way along the most notorious route between Greece, Serbia, Hungary and Austria, and compares their everyday reality to that of the refugees, which is characterised by physical exhaustion, official bureaucracy and psychological instability.
