In the mid 19th century, wealthy farmer Earnshaw comes across a homeless boy Heathcliff on the streets of Liverpool and takes him back to his estate at Wuthering Heights, nestled in a secluded part of the moors. Love soon blossoms between Heathcliff and the farmer’s daughter Cathy. But following the death of Earnshaw, his son Hindley demotes his unloved stepbrother to farmhand. To make matters worse, well-bred Edgar also begins to make eyes at Cathy. In desperation, Heathcliff decides to leave. When he returns three years later as a wealthy man, he finds to his horror that Cathy has married Edgar. Heathcliff struggles to cope with this blow to his passion.
