My Asian Heart
David BradburyArchive 2010: New World View
During the heyday of photojournalism in the l970s, Cornell Capa coined the phrase ‚concerned photographer’ to mean a photographer who understands their work as being socially engaged. Today’s world is dominated by cynical headlines and lifestyle reports; paparazzi images take the place of traditional photojournalism. But the dinosaurs of the profession still exist and are as dedicated to classical photojournalism today as their colleagues were before them. Philip Blenkinsop is one of these photographers. He migrated to Bangkok in 1989 in order to document conflict, war and death across the whole of Asia. He feels it his duty to show to the world that that would normally remain unseen.
