Special Screenings: Insights into Closed Worlds
17. September 2012The Special Screenings section offers offbeat insights into the most varied of topics and genres. Academy Award winner and this year’s jury member Jessica Yu tackles the global water crisis in LAST CALL OF THE OASIS – controversial and bang up to date. The Tom Tykwer produced feature NAIROBI HALF LIFE presents a rare opportunity to see a Kenyan feature film. It tells the story of a young man who has to battle his way through Nairobi’s underworld on his journey to becoming an actor. In VERGISS MEIN NICHT, this year’s winner at Semaine de la Critique in Locarno, young filmmaker David Sieveking portrays his mother, an Alzheimer’s sufferer. Profoundly amusing and equally upsetting – a declaration of a love for life. Horror fans also get their fair share of gore this year when MANIAC and THE PACT are screened as the festival’s two Midnight Specials.
