Festival Opens Today

A year of intensive preparation is over and the big day has finally arrived! This year’s festival opens with SAVAGES in the presence of John Travolta, Oliver Stone and producer Moritz Borman. Federal Councillor Johann Schneider-Ammann is also expected to join the stream of guests. John Travolta basks in the limelight this evening when he picks up the Golden Eye award for his achievements in cinema. Pens at the ready for interviews and autographs at the Green Carpet from 19:00 onwards. Those of you who prefer to see John Travolta’s masterpieces GREASE and SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER can make your way instead to the Arena cinemas.

The screening of films in the festival’s programme begins at 15:00: The Tykwer-film WINTERSCHLÄFER (15:00) and DAYS OF HEAVEN (18:15) with Richard Gere can be seen at the Filmpodium. The International Feature Film Competition opens with the Argentine entry EL ULTIMO ELVIS (18:45, Le Paris). THE IMPOSTER (20:30, Arena 8) marks the start of the Documentary Film Competition, and OH BOY opens the German-Language Feature Film Competition section.
